Pochettino‘s family has Italian roots originating from Piedmont. Growing up, he had a brother named Javier Pochettino. Displaying a passion for sports from an early age, Mauricio pursued higher education and obtained a master’s degree in sports management at a prestigious business school.

Eager to further develop his skills and knowledge in the coaching field, Mauricio Pochettino enrolled in training programs in Madrid one year later.

Mauricio Pochettino embarked on his illustrious playing career at Newell’s Old Boys, where he showcased his exceptional talent and contributed significantly to their triumph in the Primera División Argentina in 1991. Following his success in Argentina, Pochettino ventured to Spain in 1994 and signed with Espanyol, where he would leave an indelible mark for the next six seasons.

During his tenure at Espanyol, Pochettino played a pivotal role in their glorious victory in the Copa del Rey in 2000 and propelled them to secure the runners-up position in the Copa del Rey in 2006, further cementing his status as a formidable force on the football pitch.

After his time at Newell’s Old Boys, Mauricio Pochettino furthered his playing career by joining Paris Saint-Germain from 2001 to 2003 and later Bordeaux from 2003 to 2004. However, he decided to return to Espanyol for a second stint in 2004. Pochettino eventually hung up his boots in 2006 at 34, marking the end of his professional playing career.

Pochettino‘s managerial journey commenced in 2009 at Espanyol. He successfully guided the club to a respectable 10th-place finish during his debut season. Over the next two seasons, Pochettino continued to excel, leading Espanyol to finishes of 11th and eighth place consecutively.

Mauricio Pochettino experienced amazing success after taking over as manager of Tottenham Hotspur in 2014. He led the team to a respectable third-place result in his first season, followed by two consecutive second-place performances.

Under his leadership, Tottenham also reached their first FA Cup final in a decade in 2016 and made it to their first UEFA Champions League final in 2019. Despite these achievements, Pochettino was dismissed from his position in November 2019 due to a disappointing start to the season.

Paris Saint-Germain appointed Pochettino as their manager in January 2021. During his initial six months in charge, he guided the team to a second-place position in Ligue 1. Additionally, he achieved the title of Ligue 1 champion in his first complete season as manager.

Regrettably, PSG terminated his contract in June 2022 due to their failure to secure victory in the UEFA Champions League. In July 2023, Mauricio Pochettino was appointed manager of Chelsea. He is the club’s first Argentine manager.

On October 7, 2023, it was reported that Bashir Humphreys, currently on loan at Chelsea, revealed that certain club members expressed their desire to retain him for the ongoing season.

Taking to Swansea City’s official Twitter page, Humphreys mentioned that one of these individuals was Mauricio Pochettino. Pochettino believed that it would benefit Humphreys to continue staying at Stamford Bridge and learn from the experienced players already there.
