Rohr delighted with Osimhen’s CAF award feat

Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr is thrilled to see Victor Osimhen win the African Football of the Year award.

Osimhen scooped the Men’s Player of the Year at the CAF Awards 2023 at an elaborate ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night.

The 24-year-old finished in the number one position ahead of Achraf Hakimi and Mohamed Salah.

He was the first Nigerian to claim the gong after Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.

Rohr, who handed Osimhen his Super Eagles debut, also believes the forward can fire the Super Eagles to glory at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

“I’m so happy that Osimhen got the Africa Best Player Award of 2023 because he truly deserves it after scoring so many goals and playing so well (for club and country),” Rohr told Nation Sport.

“Of course, with his goals, he can drive the Super Eagles to AFCON victory; he can do that and I hope that he will.”
